Caol Ila 30 years The Kinship – Edition 5
Hunter Laing’s Caol Ila 30 years, part of the highly acclaimed ‘The Kinship’ series, is a triumph of maturation and maritime elegance. Released in celebration of Islay’s Feis Ile festival, this rare bottling is a perfect union of age, smoke, and coastal finesse. With three decades of cask influence, it showcases a more refined and contemplative side of Caol Ila while retaining its signature smoky charm. A true collector’s piece and a sublime sipping experience.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Gentle wafts of peat smoke blend with orange peel, old leather books, salted seaweed, and roasted nuts. Hints of vanilla and beeswax add softness and complexity.
Palate
Elegant smoke balanced by citrus brightness, salted caramel, coastal salinity, and a touch of cracked pepper. The maturity offers depth and structure while preserving Caol Ila’s lively spirit.
Finish
Long, refined, and beautifully layered. Lingering peat, warming spices, and a hint of menthol leave a memorable, sophisticated trail.
Caol Ila Distillery
Caol Ila Distillery is located on the picturesque east coast of the island of Islay, overlooking the Sound of Islay, a strait that separates Islay from Jura. Founded in 1846 by Hector Henderson, the distillery has a rich history and is the largest distillery on Islay.
A specific feature of Caol Ila is the production of both peated and unpeated single malts. The distillery is particularly famous for its heavily peated whiskies with elegant, maritime influences. The whiskies often have a distinctive flavour profile with notes of smoke, sea salt, citrus, and a subtle sweetness.
Caol Ila traditionally uses copper pot stills and water from nearby Loch nam Ban. The whiskies are mainly matured in ex-bourbon casks, which contributes to the smooth, balanced flavours.
With its unique combination of tradition, craftsmanship and distinctive flavour profile, Caol Ila remains a respected name in the world of Scotch single malt whisky.
