The Akkeshi "Hakuro" 2023 Edition - Glistening White Dew

This is the season when the heat fades and the cool autumn air envelops Akkeshi Town.
The port is crowded with seasonal saury and salmon, and the rowan flower path is also changing colors.

Tasting note

Nose

Bonfire, Japanese citrus, custard pudding, marmalade.

Taste

Mandarin ginger, orange flavored ramune.

Finish

White pepper, salted lemon, citrus-like sweetness and peel.

Overall impression

Very interesting whisky, both in aroma and taste this whisky gives an uncommon pallet of aromas that continue to captivate.

Extra information

Founded in 2013, Akkeshi distillery is the second Japanese whisky distillery on the island of Hokkaido after Nikka's famous Yoichi distillery. Like its neighbor, Akkeshi is inspired by the Scottish spirit with its two traditional Forsyths stills and the use of barley with peat to produce single malts with a strong peaty character like those from Islay.

Located in the heart of immense protected marshes, the distillery benefits from a relatively cool climate in the summer and very cold in the winter, as well as its proximity to the sea which allows the whisky's to be enriched by the iodine mist of sea air during maturation.
